Last updated October 31, 2026
Published in 1875, as his memory was failing, with the help of his daughter Ellen and James Elliot Cabot, this was the last essay collection of Ralph Waldo Emerson's lifetime. It includes Poetry and Imagination, Social Aims, Eloquence, Resources, Quotation and Originality, Progress of Culture, Inspiration, Greatness and Immortality. Cabot, who assembled much of the volume, later became Emerson's literary executor and biographer.
