Categories: Literature & Fiction
Kamouraska is a 1970 novel by the Quebec writer Anne Hébert, a classic of French Canadian literature that won the Prix des libraires in France, published in English translation by House of Anansi Press. Keeping vigil at the deathbed of her second husband in nineteenth-century Quebec City, Elisabeth d'Aulnières relives in feverish memory her youthful, violent first marriage to the squire of Kamouraska and her passionate affair with an American doctor, a love that ended in murder, scandal and a lifetime of respectability.
