Robert Skidelsky's biography of the British economist John Maynard Keynes follows his life and ideas from his Cambridge upbringing to his death in 1946. Skidelsky portrays Keynes as an economist, philosopher and public servant: a member of the Bloomsbury Group, a critic of the Treaty of Versailles, the author of The General Theory and a negotiator of the postwar Bretton Woods system. He shows how Keynes's ideas grew out of the crises of his time.
