Joe Louis, Man and Super-Fighter
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs
Joe Louis, Man and Super-Fighter (Frederick A. Stokes, 1936) is New York Sun sportswriter Edward Van Every's biography of the young heavyweight, written before Louis took the world title. Van Every tells how Alabama-born Joe Barrow moved to Detroit, where he worked at a Ford plant and began boxing as Joe Louis. He describes Louis's amateur career, his trainer and managers, his early professional bouts and his style and strategy in the ring, portraying Louis as the mid-1930s public saw him.
