Huey Long (1969) is historian T. Harry Williams's biography of the Louisiana governor and U.S. senator whose populist political machine made him one of the most controversial figures in American politics. Drawing on hundreds of interviews with people who knew Long, Williams follows his rise from rural Winnfield to the governorship in 1928, his programmes of roads, schools and free textbooks, his ruthless control of the state and his national ambitions, up to his assassination in 1935.
