Categories: Literature & Fiction
Hocus Pocus is a 1990 novel by Kurt Vonnegut, author of Slaughterhouse-Five and Cat's Cradle. It is written as the memoir of a Vietnam veteran. Eugene Debs Hartke, a former soldier and teacher, writes his story on scraps of paper while awaiting trial in 2001. He describes being fired from a college for students with learning disabilities, then teaching at a prison across the lake that houses mostly Black inmates, until a mass escape changes everything.
