Hemingway vs. Fitzgerald: The Rise and Fall of a Literary Friendship
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, Literature & Fiction
Hemingway vs. Fitzgerald (1999) is biographer Scott Donaldson's study of the friendship between Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald. It traces how the two writers met in Paris in 1925, when Fitzgerald, the more established writer, helped the younger Hemingway find a publisher, and how their bond soured through rivalry, drink, money and Hemingway's public put-downs. Donaldson uses their letters and writings to show how each man shaped the other's work and reputation.
