Joseph Conrad's novella follows Marlow, a sailor who travels up the Congo River in the service of a Belgian trading company to find Kurtz, an ivory agent rumored to have gone mad. As Marlow moves deeper into the jungle, he witnesses the brutality of colonial exploitation and the moral collapse of the Europeans who run it. First published in 1899, the book is one of the most influential and debated works of modern literature. This edition includes Conrad's Congo Diary.
