Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law
By Haben Girma
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs
Haben (2019) is the memoir of Haben Girma, a disability rights lawyer who in 2013 became the first deafblind graduate of Harvard Law School. Girma, the daughter of refugees from Eritrea and Ethiopia, describes growing up in California, building a school in Mali as a teenager, learning to dance and surf, and fighting for access at Lewis & Clark College and Harvard. She argues that disability is an opportunity for innovation rather than a limit.
