Guyland: The Perilous World Where Boys Become Men
Categories: Politics & Social Sciences
Guyland (2008) is sociologist Michael Kimmel's study of the stage between adolescence and adulthood for young American men. Based on hundreds of interviews, it describes Guyland, the social world of high school, college and post-college life from roughly 16 to 26, shaped by peer pressure, drinking, hazing, sports, video games and pornography. Kimmel examines the unwritten rules that govern how these young men behave and how parents and others can help them grow up.
