Gitanjali

By Rabindranath Tagore

Categories: Literature & Fiction

Gitanjali is a collection of devotional poems by the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore, published in English in 1912 in his own prose translations, with an introduction by W. B. Yeats. The poems, drawn largely from his Bengali collection of the same name, address God as a friend, lover and lord, and celebrate the divine in nature, everyday life and death. Their language draws on Indian devotional traditions, and the English collection introduced Tagore's work to Western readers.
