Freak Power: Hunter S. Thompson's Campaign for Sheriff

Categories: History, Politics & Social Sciences

Daniel Joseph Watkins tells the story of Hunter S. Thompson's 1970 campaign for sheriff of Pitkin County, Colorado, which aimed to take control of Aspen on behalf of hippies, artists and "freaks" and away from developers and conservative officials. The book draws on campaign posters, photographs, political art and Thompson's own writing from the period.
