Foundation and Empire

Isaac Asimov's second Foundation book brings together two linked stories. In the first, Bel Riose, an ambitious general of the declining Galactic Empire, leads a campaign against the Foundation, the small colony of scholars meant to shorten the dark age that will follow the Empire's fall. The second follows a mutant known as the Mule, who begins conquering worlds with powers that Hari Seldon's psychohistory never predicted, and a few survivors search for the hidden Second Foundation.

Elon Musk: “Asimov was amazing. His Foundation books were an inspiration for the need to make life multiplanetary while civilization is still strong.”
