Exploring Mars: Chronicles from a Decade of Discovery (2012) is Scott Hubbard's account of rebuilding NASA's Mars program after the 1999 Polar Lander and Climate Orbiter failures. As the agency's Mars Program Director, nicknamed the Mars Czar, he pushed a follow-the-water strategy of alternating orbiters and landers. The book covers the politics, budgets and engineering behind Odyssey, Spirit, Opportunity, Reconnaissance Orbiter, Phoenix and the path to Curiosity, with a foreword by Bill Nye.
