Expanded Cinema
Categories: Arts & Photography
Expanded Cinema is a 1970 book by the American media theorist Gene Youngblood, with an introduction by R. Buckminster Fuller. It was the first book to treat video as an art form and helped found the field of media arts. Youngblood surveys experimental film, computer art, video, holography and multimedia environments, arguing that new technologies would expand human consciousness. Fordham University Press reissued it in 2020 in a fiftieth-anniversary edition.
