Either/Or: A Fragment of Life
Categories: Politics & Social Sciences
Either/Or is Søren Kierkegaard's first major work, published in 1843 under the pseudonym Victor Eremita. This Penguin Classics edition is an abridgment translated by Alastair Hannay. The book sets two ways of life against each other. The first part gathers the papers of an aesthete who chases pleasure and fears boredom, including the famous "Diary of a Seducer." The second part contains letters from Judge William, who defends the ethical life of commitment, marriage and choosing oneself.

- David Heinemeier Hansson: “But then you reach Kierkegård's own writing, and instantly the fog lifts! He's funny, he's straight forward (even when sarcastic), he's INTERESTING.”
