eBoys: The First Inside Account of Venture Capitalists at Work
Categories: Business & Money
San Jose State business professor Randall E. Stross spent two years, from 1997 to 1999, as writer-in-residence at Benchmark Capital, the Silicon Valley venture firm founded in 1995 by six partners. His 2000 book draws on their weekly meetings and on access to start-ups they funded, eBay and Webvan among them. Stross shows how the partners weighed pitches, judged entrepreneurs and competed with rival firms, with particular attention to Dave Beirne, a headhunter learning to be an investor.

- Tim Ferriss: “when I first moved to Silicon Valley a book was recommended to me called eBoys, way back in the day. ... I'm sure there's lots of stuff that could stand some fact-checking, but it was incredibly inspirational. ... So fun to read.”
