This volume of the Loeb Classical Library edition of early Greek philosophy, edited and translated by André Laks and Glenn W. Most, collects the evidence for the first Greek thinkers. It includes the background of Greek thought and the early Ionian philosophers Thales, Anaximander and Anaximenes, with Greek texts and English translations on facing pages. Ancient testimonies about their lives and ideas are gathered alongside the surviving fragments, giving readers direct access to the beginnings of Western philosophy.
