Deception Point (2001) is a stand-alone thriller by Dan Brown about a NASA discovery in the Arctic during a presidential election campaign. Rachel Sexton, an intelligence analyst and the daughter of a senator running against the president, is sent to the Milne Ice Shelf to verify NASA's find: a meteorite buried in the ice that appears to contain fossils. She and a group of scientists soon realise the evidence may be faked, and find themselves hunted.
