Conversations of Socrates
By Xenophon
Categories: Religion & Spirituality
Xenophon, the Athenian soldier and historian, studied with Socrates in his youth, and this Penguin edition collects his four Socratic works. His defense speech gives an account of the trial of 399 BC, while the Memoirs of Socrates record conversations meant to show the philosopher as a good citizen and teacher. The Dinner-Party portrays Socrates among friends at a symposium, and The Estate-Manager presents his discussion of running a household and farm. Together they offer a portrait distinct from Plato's.
