Common Carnage

By Stephen Dobyns

Categories: Literature & Fiction

Common Carnage is a 1996 poetry collection by Stephen Dobyns, an American poet and crime novelist. It was his ninth book of poetry and gathers sixty-nine poems. Dobyns sets out to address the problem of how hard it is to love the world while insisting that we must love it. The poems mix the spiritual with the bawdy, the brave with the cowardly, and the kind with the cruel, in plain and often darkly funny language about ordinary lives and the violence within them.
