Colour Bar: The Triumph of Seretse Khama and His Nation
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, History
Historian Susan Williams tells the story of Seretse Khama, heir to the throne of Bechuanaland, who married a white English woman, Ruth Williams, in 1948. Their marriage caused an international crisis, as the British government, under pressure from apartheid South Africa, exiled Seretse from his homeland. Williams follows the couple's struggle and Seretse's eventual return as the first president of independent Botswana, which he led to remarkable development.
