Categories: Literature & Fiction

Close Range: Wyoming Stories is a 1999 collection by Annie Proulx, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Shipping News. It includes Brokeback Mountain, adapted into the 2005 film. The stories are set among ranchers, rodeo riders, and drifters in rural Wyoming, where harsh weather and isolation shape lives. Brokeback Mountain follows two young ranch hands whose love affair lasts for decades in secret, while other stories mix dark humor, violence, and tall tales.
