Cleopatra: A Life

By Stacy Schiff

Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, History

Pulitzer Prize winner Stacy Schiff separates fact from legend in this biography of Cleopatra, the last queen of Egypt. Using ancient sources, she portrays Cleopatra as a shrewd ruler, a highly educated woman and a skilled politician who ruled one of the richest kingdoms of the time. Schiff describes her alliances with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, her struggle against Rome and her death, and shows how her story was rewritten by her enemies.

• Shane Parrish: “A well researched and evocatively written book that essentially tries to rescue Cleopatra from history. It succeeds by giving a portrayal of the woman as she might have been, which is unlike how she has been depicted throughout most of history. Illuminating”
