Burning Secret

Stefan Zweig's novella follows a twelve-year-old boy, Edgar, on holiday with his mother at an Austrian mountain resort, where a bored young baron befriends him in order to get close to her. When Edgar realizes he is being used, his hurt turns to jealous suspicion, and he begins to sense the adult secret between them. Zweig traces the boy's painful passage from childhood innocence into knowledge.
