Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? (1967) by Bill Martin Jr., illustrated by Eric Carle, is a picture book built on a repeating question. A brown bear is asked what it sees, and it names a red bird, which in turn names a yellow duck, and so on through a blue horse, a green frog, a purple cat and more. The chain ends with a group of children, who look back at all the animals they have seen.
