Born Fighting
By Jim Webb
Categories: History
Jim Webb tells the story of the Scots-Irish, from their clashes with Romans and English on the borderlands to their migration to Ulster and then to the American frontier. He traces how they shaped American culture. Webb argues that this group gave the United States much of its military tradition, its populist politics and its country music. Mixing history with his own family story, he shows how their independence and distrust of authority shaped American life.
