Biased: Uncovering the Hidden Prejudice That Shapes What We See, Think, and Do
Categories: Politics & Social Sciences
Biased is a 2019 book by the Stanford social psychologist Jennifer L. Eberhardt, a MacArthur fellow, published by Viking. It looks at the unconscious racial bias that shapes how people see one another, even when they mean well. Drawing on her own research, on data and on personal stories, Eberhardt shows how this bias works in policing, schools, housing, business and the courts. She explains the science of how the brain sorts people into categories and suggests practical ways that individuals and institutions can reduce its harm.

- Margaret Atwood: “This one is by somebody who lives out near you called Jennifer Eberhardt and it's called Biased. And it's got the statistics. So for people who want to know, well, actually, how does this skew life in real time in the actual world? Here's the book that talks about that. It's racial bias and she's done the work. It's not just anecdotal.”
