Before They Pass Away

Before They Pass Away (2013) is Jimmy Nelson's large-format photography book documenting Indigenous and tribal communities on several continents. Shot with a 4x5 plate camera over several years, it presents groups such as the Himba, Maasai, Nenets, Dani and Maori in ceremonial dress against remote landscapes. Nelson frames the project as a visual record of traditions under pressure from globalization.
