An American Life (1990) by Ronald Reagan is the autobiography of the 40th president of the United States. Reagan describes his childhood in Dixon, Illinois, his years as a sports announcer and Hollywood actor, his time as president of the Screen Actors Guild and his two terms as governor of California. Much of the book covers his presidency from 1981 to 1989, including the assassination attempt, economic policy, the Iran-Contra affair and his summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
