Alias Grace (1996) by Margaret Atwood is a novel based on a real double murder in Upper Canada in 1843. Grace Marks, a sixteen-year-old servant, was convicted for her part in the killings of her employer and his housekeeper, and her guilt was argued over for years. Long into her imprisonment, a young doctor, Simon Jordan, begins interviewing her, hoping to recover what she says she cannot remember.
