Against a Dark Background

Lady Sharrow, an aristocrat and former soldier on Golter, a world in an isolated star system, learns that a religious cult has been granted legal license to hunt her down and kill her. To survive, she reassembles her old combat team and sets out to find the last of the Lazy Guns, ancient weapons of devastating power, which the cult will accept in exchange for her life. The novel has no connection to Banks's Culture series.
