Abraham Lincoln: The Prairie Years and The War Years
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, History
Carl Sandburg condensed his six-volume life of Abraham Lincoln, The Prairie Years (1926) and The War Years (1939), into this single volume, published in 1954. Its opening half covers Lincoln's frontier youth in Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois and his emergence as lawyer and politician. The second covers his presidency through the Civil War to his assassination. Sandburg, a poet by vocation, writes in a vivid, anecdotal style drawn from letters, newspapers and recollections.
