Categories: History, Politics & Social Sciences

This Library of America volume, edited by Don E. Fehrenbacher, collects Abraham Lincoln's speeches, letters and other writings from 1832, when he first ran for the Illinois legislature, through 1858. It includes his 1854 Peoria speech against the Kansas-Nebraska Act, the House Divided speech and the full Lincoln-Douglas debates. The writings trace his growth from frontier politician and lawyer to a national Republican voice against the spread of slavery.
