A Preface to Morals (1929) is journalist Walter Lippmann's study of moral life in the modern age. Lippmann argues that science, urbanization and the decline of religious authority have left modern people without the certainties of faith and tradition, and he proposes a humanist ethic of disinterested maturity to take their place.
