A King's Ransom
Sharon Kay Penman's 2014 historical novel continues the story of Richard the Lionheart begun in Lionheart. Returning from the Third Crusade in 1192, Richard is shipwrecked and captured by his enemy Duke Leopold of Austria, then handed to the Holy Roman Emperor, who demands an enormous ransom. His mother, Eleanor of Aquitaine, works to free him while his brother John plots against him, and the novel follows Richard's last years and wars in France.
