Ingersoll Lockwood's political novel, first published in 1896, imagines William Jennings Bryan winning that year's presidential election. On election night, mobs surge through New York toward the homes of the rich, and troops are called out to defend the Fifth Avenue Hotel. The story follows the new administration's free-silver program and its measures against concentrated wealth as the country slides into crisis. Lockwood also wrote the Baron Trump children's books, which later drew online attention.
